The BFSG and the new moinAI Chat Widget
Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) — What is that?
From June 28, 2025, the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) in force. This law ensures that digital services and websites of companies are barrier-free and are made accessible, understandable and tangible for everyone.
Why is BFSG so important?
A study by Human action and google shows that just a fifth of the websites examined are barrier-free and promote digital inclusion. Due to a lack of interaction options, inadequate contrasts or layouts, text sizes that are too small, confusing navigation bars or missing and incorrect icons, a large group of people cannot use the website and is therefore excluded. This is where the BFSG comes in, which sets new standards for products and services and thus promotes accessibility.
According to § 3 paragraph 1 BFSG, accessibility is defined in such a way that people with disabilities have access to information and products normally and without support or arising problems.
What has long since become mandatory for public institutions is now also becoming mandatory for private companies. The new law not only addresses an important social aspect, but also achieves an important milestone in online inclusion.
What does that mean for moinAI?
Our AI platform is used across industries for communication — which is why we attach particular importance to inclusion and accessibility in order to provide all users with an excellent experience.
The moinAI chat widget is optimized for screen readers, has better contrasts and supports the use of alt texts. The design was adapted according to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), which also includes our clients' chatbots.
Chat Widget
The chat widget can now be opened without using the chat or a mouse. The adjusted screen reader compatibility makes it possible to provide a text alternative for non-text content. The widget also offers smooth animations with adjusted contrasts.
Design Elements
For better readability, we use sufficient contrasts, pay attention to the display size of the various elements and, in addition to the distances, have also checked the respective scalability. In the hub settings, a warning appears in the event of weak contrasts, which allows us and our customers to always act directly in the event of problems and adjust weak points.

Easy Language
Even simple language can be used when needed by customizing chatbot content. With AI agents, it is sufficient to include a sentence such as “Please only formulate your answers in simple language” in the AI instructions. In the case of editorial topics, the content can either be translated manually into simple language and entered — or you hand over the direction to the company so that it automatically takes over.
Good to know: Everyday language is referred to as difficult language in the context of easy language. Easy language is therefore a simplified form of everyday language. It uses no foreign words or abbreviations and consists of short sentences.
How to optimize your Chatbot
- Alt text: In the MoiNAI Hub, you can add alternative text to images, slides, and videos. In this, you describe briefly and preferably in easy language what can be seen on the respective visual data.
- Color contrast: In the widget settings, you can control the color contrast according to WCAG. If a green check mark is displayed, the contrast is appropriate, if not, it is your sign to adjust the colors again.
- Chatbot content: We recommend that you use easy languages not only in alt text but also in your chatbot content to avoid confusion and ensure immediate accessibility.
More Changes at a Glance
- The name of your chatbot no longer only appears in the widget header, but with every chatbot message. Therefore, check whether the text stored as a “name” still fits or change it in the widget settings if necessary.

- The presentation of the AI indicator has changed slightly. Instead of an AI icon in front of the label, three stars now appear behind the label. We recommend making adjustments to the widget settings if necessary and recommend the term “AI-generated” or “generated.”

Conclusion
The BFSG brings a new milestone in accessibility and the same digital experience for everyone, creating a new standard of inclusion.
Even small changes can simplify and adapt a person's everyday life and improve a company's services many times over. At moinAI, we do everything we can to make our online and trade fair appearances as well as our products barrier-free and inclusive. The changes to our chat widget not only support our customers, but also the end users of the chatbots.
